External Email - Exercise Caution Dear TexCons list members, Celia Elliott-Minty is starting an MPhil research project about braids (defined as obliquely interlaced, usually narrow textile bands) at the University of Glasgow, titled "A Taxonomy of Braids: An Explanation for Archaeologists (and others)". For this, she is looking to compile an inventory of all surviving braids from Britain, Ireland, and through north-western Europe to Scandinavia, dating from the Bronze Age up to 14th century CE. Celia is looking to identify and include previously unrecognised braids in museums/excavation archives and other places and to eliminate items erroneously described as ‘braids’ in the literature, such as woven narrow bands. For this, she is looking for information about braids in museums, archives, and collections, both already published in reports or papers, and non-published or not analysed. This is an ambitious project, and I think it's also a very important one to make research and comparison of these small, but frequent and sometimes stunningly beautiful items easier.
