I happened to just be reading a Thesaurus installation guide and this snippet might be helpful:

Set the values for Tomcat's memory allocation, one value for initial memory and one for maximum memory limit. The unit used on this screen is megabytes (1,024 equals 1 gigabyte).
For a test upgrade or development copy of TMS 2021-R2, where few users are expected to be using the Thesaurus Manager at one time, a maximum value 2,048 MB (or 2GB) is considered "adequate".
For a production TMS 2021-R2 Thesaurus Manager, the default value 8,192 MB (8 GB) is considered the recommended value for the limit. 6,144 (6 GB) is an adequate value for the limit field,
if the server itself has a total of 8 GB of RAM. If the server has 10, or 12 GB of available RAM, then leave the installer's default value.

I'm adding the Library's Picture Collection subject headings<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nypl.org%2Fabout%2Fdivisions%2Fwallach-division%2Fpicture-collection&data=05%7C01%7Ctmsusers%40si-listserv.si.edu%7C9697686cf827464742e808db2a4d3a22%7C989b5e2a14e44efe93b78cdd5fc5d11c%7C0%7C0%7C638150283407887458%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=gjoOLsp41skJAEptoTnEQN3BWC4JXmBJzjZV4IDsYxU%3D&reserved=0> as an internal thesaurus. It has about 12,000 terms. I'm creating this from a "flat" structure (a spreadsheet) into a hierarchical one. I'm pretty proficient with SQL, but haven't figured how to do this programmatically, so I've been chipping away at manually entering the terms. I have about 2,500 to go. Problem is, the Thesaurus has become almost unusably slow. It can take over a minute to ingest one new term (that will be about 42 hours, which I can't spare). The Thesauri bundled with TMS are significantly larger, but run smoothly. Is the problem on our end (ie, the server?), an indexing issue? Something in DB Config (something under Maintenance perhaps)? I've got to speed this up somehow!
Thanks for any help!
