Job location: Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve,
St. Augustine, Florida. GTMNERR Environmental Education Center at Guana
River.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: This position assists the Education Coordinator
in the development and implementation of the environmental education
programs within the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research
Reserve. Presents environmental education programs at the Reserve for
students, adults, environmental professionals, and other groups. Develops
educational programs in the Reserve for presentation to these groups. Also
presents education programs at schools, civic meetings and other groups to
inform the public of the importance of the Reserve. Coordinates with
researches & environmental managers on the use of the Reserve's
educational
facilities. Develops procedure to organize & maintain laboratory, field
equipment, etc. Assists in aligning existing programs to state science
education standards and developing new activities that are aligned to
standards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL(s) & ABILITIES: Ability to: use scientific methods to
solve
problems; find information and identify essential information; evaluate
the
likely success of an idea in relation to the demands of the situation;
communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing as indicated
by
the needs of the audience; talking to others to effectively convey
information; maintain valid driver's license; deal with the public in a
courteous and tactful manner; efficiently plan, organize and coordinate
educational programs and other work assignments; work outdoors under
uncomfortable environmental conditions for extended periods of time; work
irregular hours including weekends and evenings; evaluate, analyze and
interpret scientific or technical data for use in educational programming.
Knowledge of: plant and animal living tissue, cells, organisms, and
entities, including their functions, interdependencies, and interactions
with each other and the environment; basic firs!

aid and safety procedures; principles and techniques used to develop and
deliver effective environmental education programs; the use and
maintenance
of fishing nets, environmental sampling equipment or aquaria; estuarine
ecology; environmental issues; Coastal Zone Management principles and
practices. Skill in: the use of Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint and
Excel.

Requirements: Requires a bachelor's degree in science or education with a
background in environmental science with at least one year of experience
in
the field conducting and planning outreach programs and/or teaching
science.
An advanced degree or secondary classroom teaching experience, and/or
experience leading teacher workshops are preferred.  Expertise in Sunshine
State Standards and curriculum design necessary. This position requires
general environmental knowledge about NE FL ecosystems. Additional
requirements include strong oral and written communication skills, valid
driver's license, and willingness to work independently as well as with
others. Weekend hours are required. Desirable experience includes: public
outreach, working with volunteers, workshop development, writing and/or
producing educational materials.

Note: This is an OPS position, which does not include insurance or leave
benefits. The salary range for this position is $10-$15 per hour which is
commensurate with experience.

Job Announcement:
Education Manager

The Santa Monica Pier Aquarium (SMPA), a community program of Heal the
Bay,
offers school groups, families and visitors a unique view into the ocean
world just outside its doors and is home to hundreds of organisms native
to
the Santa Monica Bay.  Interactive displays, touch tanks filled with tide
pool animals and aquaria exhibits are some of the main features of the
Aquarium. The SMPA strives to teach visitors about the importance of
environmental stewardship and marine conservation.

The Education Manager is responsible for the development, management,
teaching, and daily implementation of the education programs for the Santa
Monica Pier Aquarium. This position, which will begin in August 2005, is
an
excellent opportunity to gain experience in the fields of marine biology
and
informal environmental education.  The Education Manager will work
full-time
Monday through Friday and will report directly to, and work closely with,
the Aquarium Director.  Heal the Bay is an equal opportunity employer and

Responsibilities
Manage the education programs including:
.    The daily oversight and implementation of education programs;
.    Recruit, train, schedule and manage the education staff and interns;
.    Evaluate and refine existing curricula/activities;
.    Work with the Public Programs Manager to recruit and train education
volunteers;
.    Market education programs through mass mailings, newsletters,
in-service presentations, etc.;
.    Act as a Key to the Sea program partner;
.    Attend and present at educational association conferences;
.    Establish and maintain a network of educational colleagues;
.    Purchase and maintain educational supplies and materials.
Coordinate the research, development and implementation of new education
programs:
.    Develop new standards- based curricula, including pre and post visit
materials;
.    Determine and maintain budgets and material needs;
.    Assist the Director in the evaluation of programs quality and
logistics.
Manage grants, including:
.    Establishment and oversight of budgets;
.    Timely completion of internal monthly grant reports;
.    Track and maintain data for grant reports, assist with reports to
the grantors;
.    Assist with new grant creation and applications.

Qualifications
.    College degree in science (marine biology preferred), education or a
related field
.    Knowledge of Southern California flora and fauna
.    Passion for environmental, marine science, and education issues
.    Experience in educational settings, such as a school, museum or
non-profit organization
.    Experience in curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation
.    Supervisory experience
.    Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work on multiple
tasks simultaneously
.    Ability to meet deadlines and remain flexible in a dynamic work
environment
.    Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with many people in
diverse settings
.    Excellent written, verbal and computer skills
.    Written and oral fluency in Spanish is a plus

Salary:    $36,000-$40,000/year, plus benefits (health, dental, vacation,
retirement).
Hours:     Full Time.  Some weekend and evening hours required.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and Florida Gulf
Coast University (FGCU) announce two regular, full-time, positions in the
FDEP Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) based in Miami, Florida.

The CRCP promotes and coordinates research, monitoring, partnerships, and
stakeholder participation for the conservation of southeast Florida's
reefs.
The CRCP is developing and supporting the state's efforts through
Florida's
membership on the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force including planning, directing
and coordinating the implementation of Florida's Local Action Strategy:
the
Southeast Florida Coral Reef Initiative. For information about the

-The Seattle Aquarium Position Duties Develop, coordinate and implement
a wide variety of informal science educational programs for a new
exhibit at the Seattle Aquarium opening in the spring of 2007. Review
and evaluate existing Aquarium education programs in order to update
them. Lead, develop, implement and coordinate informal science education
programs and community outreach initiatives at the Seattle Aquarium for
students, teachers and the general public; administer contracts; track,
evaluate and analyze program data, act as a liaison with schools, City
departments and various community and civic groups on educational
programming at the Aquarium; recommend, evaluate and coordinate
educational consultants; research and write informational publications,
training and educational materials; evaluate educational programming .
Required Qualifications
The equivalent of one year experience in planning and delivering public
education programs, classes, or presentations and a Bachelor's Degree in
English, Education, Communication or a related field. Washington State
Driver's License.
Desired Qualifications
Three to five years experience planning, developing and delivering
informal/formal science education programs in an aquarium, zoo, nature
center, or similar institutions such as public and private schools: a
strong background in principles, practices and techniques of designing
and evaluating informal science education programs. Experience
developing and implementing inquiry-based science programs; Experience
in compiling, organizing and analyzing statistical information. Strong
effective oral and written communication skills.
Master's degree is preferred.
