Colleagues at the RS Peabody Museum here in Andover have been treating
their pest problem (dermestid beetles and moths) with a program of
low-temperature treatment followed by vacuuming and inspecting them. There
are a few artifacts that continue to display evidence of insect activity
after being frozen twice (each for a period of 2 weeks with a temperature
of approximately -27C). Are there any lasting negative effects that they
need to be wary of by freezing these objects a third time? Or will the
artifacts – woolen woven blankets- continue to be fine with multiple
