we use Tyvek since some years but such effects I have not seen or known about it.
I will also send your question to the Textile Conservation List if there anybody know about this problem and can answer you.

Dear Madam,

I am writing to enquire about an abnormal deterioration of conservation material in Musée Galliera (Paris).

I am actually studying in Master's degree of Preservation at Paris-Sorbonne. I realize researches for the department of Conservation of Musée Galliera about the damages of non-woven in polyethylene (Tyvek). These materials are very used for the conservation and the packaging of textiles and leathers in the Museum. We have observed colorings (yellow or pink) and deformations (distortions) of Tyvek in contact with leather varnished bags. This phenomenon is not perceptible on the whole collection and is punctual.

I would like know your opinion about this degradation and if somebody in the Staatliche Ethnographische Sammlungen Sachsen has already noted an unusual aspect of this packaging materials in polyethylene.
