Hi Lauren,

You might to talk with Gallery Systems about this since they are developing a ULAN importer functionality, which would include the URIs such as http://vocab.getty.edu/ulan/500004539
In terms of URIs for AAT and TGN terms coming from the TMS Thesaurus Manager, the terms’ unique identifiers are already in the TMS tables. You could append them with the Getty’s domain spaces on export from TMS.
As for the other terms not linked to the thesaurus manager (classifications, work types, cultures, nationalities,…) we keep an Access database with these controlled vocabulary terms’ unique identifiers and write them back to the TMS tables. As a YUAG colleague just suggested to me recently (Hi Scott!) you could achieve the same result by adding these terms to the Authorities of the thesaurus manager and using the scope note field for the ids.
Food for thought.

Best,

Emmanuelle

Subject: Re: Tracking ULAN ID or URI

Hi again and thanks for everyone’s responses on this. It’s a tricky question since we don’t deliver our URIs to collections search or any other system as of yet – hoping for the best and grateful to hear what others are doing.

We’ve decided that for ULAN and other authority terms we’ll be using the AltNums table for URIs since it links to the Constituent and the Object tables. We’re considering adding the URI **for the resource itself** (either ULAN itself, or AAT itself) to the Description field in that same table. Does anyone else do this presently, or hope to? Alternatively, we may just end up with a static name authority file of resource sets used that people can draw from when cataloging instead.

Best,
Lauren

Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum is using text entries in the Constituents module to capture this information as well as other LOD URIs (LCSH, TGN, etc) and add a little bit of semantic data (is creator, is subject, etc.). So far we’re delivering to the SI’s collections search center the terms without the embedded URIs, but it’s all in there for future use.

Hi TMS users,
I’m new to this listserv and grateful to find this community.

Are there other users that currently track linked data URIs in TMS for authority file reference? Besides tracking, another use case is that we want to be able to in the future export or transform this data from TMS tables in case we were to adopt a system that supports RDF serialization.

In particular, we are currently underway reconciling our TMS constituent data with Getty ULAN. We are looking to track Getty ULAN IDs or URIs, in the constituent table in TMS 2012. If you do this, in what field do you track this information?

Many thanks,
Lauren
