I'm sorry everyone... I meant to send that only to Carole...

Happy Friday to you all, though!

parameter

Wow, Carole! I'm looking at this report now, and I am floored! Wow!
Calling this a little complicated is putting it mildly!

There's so much that I don't understand in what you've done, but maybe
my most basic question has to do with where the prompt list comes from.
I'm pretty sure I understand what you're saying--that the terms come
from Conservation related attribute types that are in TMS. I understand
why you would want to do that in order to pull other information from
TMS into the report, but if I only wanted to add a list of terms that
are NOT in TMS already, can that be done? Or do the terms already have
to live in TMS to work that way?

Or, to put it another way, can I build a list of controlled vocabulary
that lives ONLY in the report parameter?

It might be a moot question since I also want to build up the
Conservation module, and it would help to have the same terms in TMS as
are on the report.

Hmm... This might be too much for a Friday afternoon, but thanks again!

David

Hi David,

I do have just the report for you. At the top under the under line I
expanded a subreport that has the Conservation related Attribute Types
in a Parameter. This Parameter appears with the list in the window in
TMS -- because it is in a Subreport after the normal Gallery Systems
param window. Users can use the actual list to choose their terms. No
typos. I use formulas to pull their answers and the data that relates
to their choices back into the Main report. These formulas are the
nearly invisible squares in the two sections following the subreport.

Look this report over and let me know what questions you have. It is a
bit complicated to hand off without explaining all that I am doing.

Are you going to Amsterdam? Hope all is good with you!

Carole.

Before I waste too much time trying to figure out something that isn't
actually possible, have any of you added parameters to a report that
have a controlled list of options to choose from rather than allowing
people to fill in free text? It doesn't seem obvious to me how to do
that if it is possible.

I'm trying to write a basic conservation request form, but the
conservators only want people who fill out the form to have a limited
number of things that they can request. Do any of you have suggestions
for how to accomplish this?

I'd appreciate any advice you can give.

Thanks,

David
