We use the eMuseum Thumbnailer for this...super simple. Run it on a package in either Objects or Media modules. Might be easier or more comfortable for folks not expert at Crystal or SQL. Just a thought.

Christine's solution looks great. Just in case, here is another solution, courtesy Dimitry. The SQL script runs on an object package and you save the results as a .bat file. Below are my "notes to self" if they make any sense.

Batch Export Media Files Instructions

1. Create destination folder (in Temp, location probably doesn't matter)

2. Update and Run saved query "ExportMediaFiles.sql" (script attached, please read notes)

2. Select all records, copy & paste into Notepad

3. Save as .bat file on Desktop

4. Open Command Prompt

5. Execute .bat file (example below)

C:\Users\CGibbs>cd desktop

C:\Users\CGibbs\Desktop>"type file name here (do not include extension or quotes)"

e.g. C:\Users\CGibbs\Desktop>BRphoto OR if there is only one .bat file on desktop: C:\Users\CGibbs\Desktop>dir *.bat

Best,

Jarred, I have just the ticket! Courtesy Larry Felton from the California State Parks at the request of Ashley Burke, from your very institution, back in June 2009.

Open the e-mail thread, and there's a Crystal Report that will facilitate this. While I use it infrequently, it comes in so handy when I need it!

Subject: exporting a batch of images

Hi all,

I need to export a bunch of images (upwards of 2,000). I can pick them out of our media folder, but they're not sequential and this seems daunting to do one-by-one. Does anyone know of a way to isolate images based on a set of records (i.e. a query result or an object package)? I imagine this would involve running a report to generate a list of media paths & file names, then using that list to load into a script on our network which can copy/paste to a location we choose.

If anyone has done something like this or has some insight, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!
Jarred
