Hi Matt

We use TMS to manage all our exhibition furniture and other non-collection assets as well as the collection. These include items used by our fleet or building services divisions such as rigging, furniture, exhibition furniture. We also use TMS for other collections that are not managed by the registration department, such as the education collection or an on board collection from our replica ENDEAVOUR vessel. These other departments use TMS to manage their materials - record locations, images etc. We assist with training and maintaining some controls over data and helping with specialised reports but otherwise leave them to it.

There are a couple of benefits – with regards to the exhibition furniture, which includes showcases, moveable walls, plinths and supports, interactives etc we can add these to our exhibition contents lists for comprehensive lists for installation or travel. This helps us keep track of this furniture and reuse it where possible. In addition, the wide spread use of TMS through a variety of departments in the organisation helps ensure that TMS is regarded as an important agency tool.

Happy to answer any other questions.

Kind regards, Sally

Hi Matt,

We recently did exactly that here. We call ours Exhibition Design Furniture so we numbered everything with an EDF.[#] system. We created a department for these objects so most users don't see them and used a custom form and flex fields.
I'd be happy to send on screen shots and a copy of the instructions we made for our users if you would like. Feel free to email me directly with any questions.

Good morning all!

I am wondering if anyone has added non-item assets to their TMS. Specifically, we are looking at adding our exhibit structure, gallery walls, and other pieces (namely, Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment) that would not be categorized as items/artifacts. Has anyone had experience with this? If so, what has been your experience with adding these items to TMS?

Thank you for your input.
