Not ‘collections management and technology’ per se; but have you looked at CIDOC Training<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcidoc.open-world.ch%2FTraining%2F&data=04%7C01%7Ctmsusers%40si-listserv.si.edu%7Cba131329463f4b97d5e408d8803bb37a%7C989b5e2a14e44efe93b78cdd5fc5d11c%7C0%7C1%7C637400341193006105%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=lNMMffL%2FqLOR3Q9sB4zkpRwbze5I1i%2BDNUsQ4CpEAIQ%3D&reserved=0>? The catalogue of course modules<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcidoc.open-world.ch%2FTraining%2FCIDOC_Training_Catalogue_en.pdf&data=04%7C01%7Ctmsusers%40si-listserv.si.edu%7Cba131329463f4b97d5e408d8803bb37a%7C989b5e2a14e44efe93b78cdd5fc5d11c%7C0%7C1%7C637400341193006105%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=r%2BtXZHaYGBgixy3qfNKcRmuKPRBJ5afeB0t2QLmPcbA%3D&reserved=0> contains much that is relevant, at least at the higher levels.

Realistically, though, how many of us have just picked it up along the way? If you’re coming from the collections management side, I’d suggest anything that teaches you the basics of database organisation: a straightforward ‘Introduction to MS Access’ (RIP?) course would give you a good grasp of the basics.

(Me, I taught myself databases on DataEase for DOS<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FDataEase%23DataEase_for_DOS&data=04%7C01%7Ctmsusers%40si-listserv.si.edu%7Cba131329463f4b97d5e408d8803bb37a%7C989b5e2a14e44efe93b78cdd5fc5d11c%7C0%7C1%7C637400341193006105%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=xc5ERZVNxzIeTwSQC%2BP%2B59CPYEOrIxQsodBs28ODWdU%3D&reserved=0> …)

Best wishes

Subject: [EXTERNAL] How to become a museum database admin?

Hello, TMSers!

I am going to be giving a career chat for my museum's staff forum on Friday, and I am anticipating the question: "Gosh, your life just sounds so glamorous. How can I become a TMS administrator?"

I fell into this career by accident. But if you really did want to build a career as a museum database administrator, how would you do that in 2020? I automatically think of LIS programs, which are so good on technology, cataloging, and records management, but are there other programs or certificates outside general Museum Studies that combine collections management and technology? I'm interested in how some of the younger folks got into this career track.

Thanks!

Fatima
