In the process as well to implement barcoding use with TMS.
Never done before, just received the labels, printers still on their way.
We plan to tag our objects whenever possible (back of a frame, a stretcher or on montage, labels fixed with a string…) during the audit process of the whole collection (10% each year – about 100 000 in all at the moment without our drawings).
First tagging is due at the beginning of the fall.
Let’s talk about it then…
We had a look at how the Musée du Quai Branly does use barcoding. Different types of objects, different use.
May be useful to get in touch with them.
Regards,
Elsa

I would also be interested to hear about others' processes as we are facing a large storage move (from on-site to off site) very soon. We do not currently use barcoding at all.

Thanks,
Frances

Subject: Shipping/Receiving Process

Hello everyone,

We are refining our shipping/receiving and asset identification processes and I was hoping to get some suggestions from you all.

To give you a little background, we have quite a bit of asset movement between our warehouse and museums and are working on ways to better handle all of this moment. We currently use paper tags with our barcode labels produced from the TMS barcode manager we just started using to identify all of our assets. So, I was wondering if you leave your paper tags on your items during shipment for identification upon receipt? If so, do your museums dispose of the paper tags upon receipt? If anyone would be willing to share their shipping/receiving process I would be extremely grateful!

Thank you,

Lori White
