Hello,
At the Australian National Maritime Museum we have just reviewed the classification as part of our project to publish TMS content to our collection website. We have reviewed this with the website user in mind, as classifications will be one of the ways users are to narrow down their search results and some of our previous categories made perfect sense to us but puzzled external users.
Thanks
Rhondda

Re; Classification terms, we've just done a complete review and reworking of the way Classifications have been used historically at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia.) We want Classifications, the Object Name and Title to all provide a unique contribution to object documentation, so have defined the Classification going forward as an 'object genre', a ' broad grouping' or list of 'art forms'. That has meant cleaning out a lot of Classifications that were actually object names, material types, etc. Of course, having said that, we are having a bit of trouble here and there making our approach 'stick' (Is it 'glass' or 'glassware'? Our curators fought for 'glass'). Still, the new list of terms will give us the opportunity to improve browsing by both internal users and those accessing our collections website.
Here is our current list. (It is a work in progress. We'll add more terms as we identify gaps. Some new terms are still in discussion.) Note: I did a lot of comparison to lists I was able to find in use on others' websites and relied a bit on the AAT's object genres. Hope i is helpful. get in touch if you have questions or comments about it.
Cheers,
Frances

Subject: List of Classification Terms for Database
Hello TMS Users-
I was wondering if anyone was willing/able to share a list of all classification terms used within your database? We're getting into the nitty gritty assessing department names and classifications.
Thank you!
Best Regards,
