We have been recording such documents as the format "unpublished manuscripts" in the bibliography module, and linking back to the object(s). A note may be then created describing the manuscript, it's location, etc.

Subject: manuscript references

Hello all,

We are looking at archiving manuscript references in the Bibliography Module and I was wondering what others do to indicate their location in a curatorial file when they are unpublished (and not catalogued in an external library catalogue with a call number).

I am thinking of using the Alternate Numbers field since we already use it to indicate the location of published references with a call number or stating "available online" (Alt. Number Description). Similarly I would create a new Alternate Number Description for "Manuscript Reference" with the type "Curatorial file".

The point is to let know TMS users that we have a copy of the manuscript in a curatorial file but I would like to do it in way that makes sense in terms of cataloguing bibliographic resources.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Emmanuelle
