Dear MoMS friends:

We have been following for a few years now the development of the Standards and Excellence Program for History Organizations (StEP) by the American Association of State and Local History. Many of you know about this already, but for those who don't you might want to learn more about how StEP materials would be an excellent way for state humanities councils to provide targeted technical assistance to the small museums that host MoMS. Training associated with the StEP program is an excellent use for your STAR Funds.

So, I thought you might want to know about the AASLH webinar coming up for service providers on April 8, 2010. Please see the information below. If you have any questions about how this fits into the MoMS world, please give us a call and we would be happy to discuss it further with you.

Carol

Subject: [FS-LIST] Free StEPs Webinars

Please share the following information with colleagues

AASLH is offering free information webinars about its new StEPs program (Standards and Excellence Program for History Organizations). StEPs is a self-paced program that offers small- and mid-sized history organizations a way to assess their policies and practices and earn progress certificates. StEPs was developed by AASLH with IMLS funding and the help of more than 130 volunteers from across the country.

Each webinar is one hour. The dates are: (note that the intended audience for each webinar is different):

On Thursday, April 8 at 2 p.m. Eastern, we will hold a one-hour webinar for staff and volunteer leaders of service organizations including state and regional associations, field service offices, state historical societies, and state humanities councils. The webinar will present ideas on how service organizations can use StEPs materials to enhance their programs and services including workshops, onsite consultations, and publications. Webinar speakers will be Cherie Cook, AASLH Senior Program Manager, and Jeff Harris, Director of Local History Services at the Indiana Historical Society. Participation in the webinar is free but you must pre-register at http://www.learningtimes.net/stepswebcasts

On Tuesday, April 13 at 2 p.m. Eastern, we will hold a one-hour webinar for staff, volunteers, and board members of museums, historic houses, historical societies, and other organizations. If you've been curious about how the StEPs program works and how it might benefit your organization, plan to join us. The webinar speaker will be Cherie Cook, AASLH Senior Program Manager. If you have not taken part in a webinar before, here's your chance to try one for free! While there is no charge to participate, pre-registration is required at
