We also based our object names loosely on the AAT and have built a separate simpler version from the Getty within the Thesaurus Manager. Our object names are sentence case and are singular terms unless the accessioned object is componentized. We deal with different versions of the object name through equivalent terms in the thesaurus.

We use the Object Name sub-field (not the first one) for 2 types of data: genres and object names.
These are 2 finite controlled vocabularies (13 genre terms), mostly derived from the Getty's AAT (for object names) with an eye toward cross-collection queries. For example instead of using the genre "history painting" we use "historical subject" so that genre can be used for finding paintings and drawings.
