At the National Gallery, we record frames as separate objects, linked to paintings as current or previous framing. Glazing information is added to the frame record, using a context authority (‘Glazing’) and a context date (‘Glazing Date’) field. Further information is included in a short text field (‘Frame allocation notes’). Terms for the ‘Glazing’ field are:
* display case
* glazed, material unspecified
* integral frame
* laminated glass
* LRLG 4.4 mm
* LRLG 6.4 mm
* Optium acrylic
* Optium acrylic 4.5 mm
* Optium acrylic 6 mm
* Perspex
* plate glass
* shadow box
* unglazed
* unglazed, glass in store
* unlaminated glass
Best wishes

Hello all,
I’m trying to establish a process for documenting the glazing of our framed works in TMS and am curious how others have approached. Currently we use a mix of Text Entries, Handling Notes, and the Storage Comments field…
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Best,
Meredith
